The Batman universe has been popular for decades, with Nolan’s recent trilogy reigniting the passion in many and developing it in a new generation. The new show due out in fall, Gotham is continuing with this universe and will probably do well with the popularity of Batman and with superheroes and comic books in general. One sign that it might do well is that there was a bidding war for the show, with Fox winning it in the end. This series takes a different twist from other Batman-themed shows by centering on the detective James Gordon.
It will show him when he was young, which gives the show the ability to go back in time in the Batman universe, where it will be able to look at a young Bruce Wayne and the history of the villains and city. Bruno Heller from The Mentalist is writing this show and Ben McKenzie plays Gordon. The show also includes big actors Donal Logue and Jada Pinkett Smith. Interestingly enough, this series is not expected to include Batman, at least not yet, because it takes place before Batman comes to be. It is intended as more of a side series that won’t interfere with the Batman universe too much.
