The neo-noir action thriller cinematic world of “ John Wick” continues to grow into a huge franchise with its third movie, but now it seems it will continue to expand even further. To the small screens, that is.
Writer Derek Kolstad and director Chad Stahelski have recently announced that the TV series spin-off is in the works, and now we have an exclusive update on this project, coming straight from the horse’s mouth!
Very Tied To The Film
The John Wick based TV series is currently named “The Continental.” The fans will know that it is called that way after the luxury hotel chain that offers accommodation and other services to assassins across the world, but as we now find out from Stahelski, the show is about to expand the Wick universe in some pretty interesting ways.
“They’ve got a really good structure,” says Stahelski in his interview with Indiewire, and continues:
“It’s very tied to the film in that it’s about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool. I think the world is very vast, and everything I’ve heard from it is very positive.”
Other Characters In Focus
As it was a bit expected, the TV series will look to expand the John Wick lore from a different point of view. Or several of them, actually.
While the big screen John Wick stories revolve around and focused on Keanu Reeves‘ titular hitman, the TV spin-off will revolve around other characters.
“I like telling stories from my one character’s perspective, says Stahelski. “Once you put that aside with the TV show, you can expand to all the different characters and follow them throughout their journey. You can be with the consigliere, concierge, the sommelier — you can be with all these different characters and walk through the world in different aspects; ones that I’m a little limited from exploring by staying with my lead guy.”
However, that “lead guy” – as he calls John Wick – will indeed make an appearance in the TV spin-off.
