Peter Pan just got way cooler. The charismatic actor is signing on to play everyone’s favorite pirate ‘Captain Hook’ in NBC’s “Peter Pan Live.”
If you you’ve seen the Fat Boy Slim video for the song “Weapon Of Choice” you know that the man’s got the moves, and the network is promising to take full advantage of Walken’s dancing skills with possibly “the first tap-dancing Captain Hook you’ve ever seen”.
“I’m happy to announce today that Captain Hook will be played by Christopher Walken,” NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt stated at NBC’s Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills.
“He’s fearless as a comedic actor and always comes to play. I guarantee you he will bring his own spin to Captain Hook, and it might be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook you’ve ever seen.
He’s one of the most unique actors in our business. He might really just be a song-and-dance man at heart,” Greenblatt added.
While he remained silent on who will play Peter Pan, he did confirm a woman would be cast in the role, and revealed that he had wanted Kristen Bell for the part.
However, the actress has to be available full-time starting August 5, and that is clashing with the shooting schedule for her Showtime series “House of Lies.”
Walken tried out on TV and in musicals before moving onto the big screen in the early ’70s.
“It’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after Hairspray.
It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again,” the actor stated.
Walken as tap-dancing famous Captain Hook? We’re already hooked.
