Since “Maleficent” was, and still is a huge hit in cinemas all over the globe, and given the 600 million dollars the movie has added to the Disney’s bank account so far, this project has also proven that there is a lot of money in re-animating the old classics and making them live-action.
So, the next beloved character to come to life thanks to them is the famous and the cutest elephant out there, Dumbo.
According to the “The Wrap”, Justin Springer, best known for producing “Prom”, will oversee the project, and “Transformers” writer Ehren Kruger will do the script trying to make it as family-friendly as possible.
If you’ve seen “Alice In Wonderland” and “Maleficent”, you have probably noticed they’ve pushed the envelope a few inches toward adult direction in comparison with the old classics, but they’ve still managed to stay on the safe side in order to appeal to all generations.
Disney hasn’t yet officially announced what the animation might look like for a modern day adaptation of “Dumbo,” but we might assume it would involve CGI-ing the little elephant into the movie with human characters. But let’s wait for the official statement from the board.
As for the timetable on “Dumbo”, the studio hasn’t yet announced anything in particular, but given how long these movies can take to even get out of the development stage, we might be looking at 2016 at the earliest, probably even 2017.
Even though there’s a long wait ahead of us, if you are a true Dumbo fan, this news should make those huge pink elephants parade around in your head making you watch the old classic from 1941 a least one more time.
