In the aftermath of a very successful debut, El Rey’s From Dusk Till Dawn has officially been approved for a second season. Based off of a popular 90s movie, the hit show follows essentially the same plot as the original. And as in the movie, the writer and director for the series is the talented Robert Rodriguez. The difference, however, is that the television From Dusk Till Dawn lends a greater level of depth to its key characters.
In From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, the protagonist brothers are played by Zane Holtz and D.J. Cotrona. Fans of the movie assumed there was no way these relatively unknown actors could replace the likes of George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino, but thus far, they’ve done a great job of portraying the surprisingly sympathetic criminal siblings.
Expectations are high for the second season of the series. Fans assume that Robert Rodriguez will continue to move on from the plot of the original version of From Dusk Till Dawn; this is not necessarily a bad thing, as the television show requires new storylines and characters. Old characters are also essential, however, and from the looks of things, a character everyone assumed was long gone will be back for more.
The returning character in question in Earl McGraw, the Texas Ranger who also appeared in the movie version of From Dusk Till Dawn, along with Tarantino’s other big project, Kill Bill Volume One. Played by Don Johnson in From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, McGraw was thought to be dead when the series premiere ended. Although he isn’t actually returning in the form of flesh and blood, McGraw will appear in the flashbacks of his partner, Freddie Gonzalez. Through those flashbacks, McGraw will once again prove why he is a formidable opponent for the Gecko brothers.
Little else has been revealed about the upcoming second season of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. What is clear, however, is that, as was the case during the first season, the new series of episodes will be incredibly satisfying for longtime fans of the franchise.
