One of the busiest directors out there, Guillermo Del Toro, has something new in store for his fans. While the biggest recent news was the official announcement that “Pacific Rim 2” finally got a release date, it appears that Guillermo has the time to sneak in another project before he returns to the world of monstrous sea creatures.
Del Toro has revealed that even though he’s currently very busy, he is planning to shoot a much smaller film before kicking off shooting Pacific Rim’s sequel.
“Right away, in February and March I should start on another very small movie, black and white, really, really bizarre,” says del Toro.
“We start pre-production on “Pacific Rim 2” in August, and then I interrupt it briefly to go into the first of next year to do this strange little movie, and then I restart it and go all the way until we start shooting at the end of 2015 for release in 2017.”
The mysterious and crafty director unfortunately didn’t provide many details about the project. He did however admit he’s already thinking about the cast.
“It’s a very small cast. I would love to have John Hurt, and there’s an actress that I have in mind that is not well known but I’ve seen her in a short film. That’s all she’s really done, one feature and one short, but she has an incredibly interesting taste and I’m gonna try her out for the main role.”
When it comes to the tone and genre, he wasn’t very specific, but he did mention the movie will have “one great creature” in it.
Sounds a lot like the famous “Pan’s Labyrinth”. Let’s just hope we’re right.
