England’s most versatile actor, Sean Bean, has officially joined Matt Damon in “The Martian,” the space survival drama Ridley Scott is directing for Twentieth Century Fox.
Matt Damon is a NASA astronaut, Mark Watney, who is left stranded on the Red Planet after a dust storm forces his crewmates on the Ares 3 mission to evacuate.
In order to survive the harsh conditions on Mars, Watney tries to produce water and grow crops, while his fellow astronauts are kept in the dark about his survival during their voyage back to Earth on the Hermes spacecraft.
Meanwhile, NASA tries to find a way to rescue Mark and the Hermes also try to help once they finally learn he’s still alive.
The Rest Of The Crew?
Apart from Sean Bean, who’s staying on the ground as a NASA flight director, and Matt Damon who tackled the lead role in the project, Jeff Daniels will play the NASA boss who must decide how much to tell Watney’s colleagues about his ordeal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara and Michael Peña are also now officially on board.
Scott is producing alongside Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood, who discovered the original book by Andy Weir, which was used as the basis for the film. Drew Goddard adopted the script.
