Even though Warner Bros. moved the project a bit in order to make new Lego Batman’s spin-off adventure happen, the studio didn’t forget about the original ‘Lego Movie.’
Right Men for the Job
Phil Lord and Chris Miller have officially signed on with Warner Bros to script the coveted Lego Movie sequel, although they were rumored to be back only as the producers.
They wrote and directed the first film, and they are now back on board, not only as producers but as the duo behind the main story. Big day for Phil and Chris.
There are even some reports that they’ll also direct the upcoming sequel, but this is yet to be officially confirmed.
Who else is in?
The first Lego Movie grossed $468 million worldwide, which made it the third highest grossing film of the year so far and it is already in the Best Animated Feature category for the Oscars.
Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing alongside Lord and Miller, and Jill Wilfert, Matt Ashton, Chris McKay and Kara Lord Piersimoni are on board as executive producers, while Greg Silverman, Courtenay Valenti and Chris Defaria are overseeing the whole thing.
Warner Bros. studio has dated the sequel for May 26, 2017.
Lord and Miller also directed “22 Jump Street,” which grossed over $319 million worldwide, which made the power duo the only writers/directors with two films ranked among the top ten highest grossing features of 2014.
They are indeed the right men for the job.
