As hooked as we are to reality television, most of what we see is carefully written and produced to seem as natural as possible, while at the same time creating a certain degree of controversy. Still, watching reality TV can be a simple way to escape our own reality, a source of entertainment or just a way to pass the time.
Whatever the reason for watching these types of shows, we feel like we need to expose some of them parading as real for what they actually are – truly and utterly fake!
1. American Idol
American Idol is one of the pioneers of reality television, and after 15 seasons producers announced they were bringing it to a close in 2015.
After 15 years of being on television, the show is bound to attract some major controversy, from rigging the voting process to pitting the judges against one another.
The latest judge to slam the show was Mariah Carey, who appeared on American Idol for one season in 2013, and who claimed judges were coerced into fabricating exaggerated comments to increase the entertainment value of the otherwise pretty boring show, a few exceptional performances excluded.
Carey also added that the non-existent feud with fellow judge Nicki Minaj was blown out of proportion to increase the ratings of the show, taking attention away from the contestants.
