“How I Met Your Mother” wasn’t just a nine-season show. It wasn’t just a place where a handful of actors jumped into the spotlight. In fact, there are many who would dare call this sitcom as ‘the ultimate TV show of the modern age.’
Real-Life Comedy Works
The popularly named HIMYM was a CBS-produced sitcom which made its way onto the small screen back in 2005, only to grow beyond anyone’s expectations. By the time its finale aired, “How I Met Your Mother” amassed a total of 208 episodes and whole 9 seasons.
Created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the HIMYM show was basically designed to be to the modern generation what “Friends” were to the youth of the ‘90s. Needless to say, it went above that.
Even though 95% of the show happens in present day New York, the original story is set in 2030. Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) is telling his daughter and son – as well as the audience – about the story of how he met their mother.
Ted’s tale takes us back to 2005, where he was an architect in his late 20s and living with his best friends from college Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan). The trio lives a pretty standard life for the time, until Ted accidentally runs into Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), who is a womanizer, a magician, a master plotter, and in his mind, Ted’s best friend in the world.
Shortly after befriending Barney, Ted spots a cute girl named Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) at the local bar and immediately falls for her.
When their relationship proves impossible, Robin join the crew and becomes a regular part of HIMYM’s main cast.
We can’t say much more without giving out spoilers, but we can say that Ted has a nick for details while telling his story.
He manages to remember many important, as well as irrelevant details, which beautifully fall into place up to the point when he reveals who the mother actually is much later into the show.
